Solar Photovoltaic Programmes | Remote Village / Hamlet Electrification Programmes
During 2001-02, ANERT initiated a new project to electrify all the remote SC/ST colonies in the forest area, which are away from the conventional electricity lines.
In various phases, this project brought light to about 6000 families of 129 colonies all over Kerala. The total outlay of the project was Rs.847.5 lakhs. MNRE provided a financial assistance of Rs.408.7 lakhs and the balance Rs.438.7 lakhs was the State Government share.
In the first phase, eleven Stand-alone Solar Photovoltaic Power Plants with a total installed capacity of 40.04 kW were established.
In the second phase, 173 remote colonies were selected. 5450 Solar Home Lighting Systems with an installed capacity of 202 kW provided light to about 5400 homes. 100 Street lighting systems were also installed in these villages.
An important feature of this program is that these systems are maintained by the companies for 5 years. To ensure local participation, Beneficiary Committees have been created with all beneficiaries as members under the local Panchayat President. These members also contribute a certain amount every monlth towards cost for replacement of spares & batery after the warranty period is over.
Solar TV, solar pumping systems and solar stills have also been provided to a few colonies to meet their additional demands.
